ON-LINE BACK UP: HOW IT WORKS
Our online backup service is a completely secure, fully automated backup and recovery solution for your data. Utilising EVault's industry leading software including Delta technology, our service recognises changes to files in the backup safeset, encrypts and compresses those changes and sends the data up to our highly reliable and secure offsite storage vault.
Using our service is this simple:
- Install the Central Control software onto a Microsoft Windows machine to be used for administration and the client agents onto the servers that are to be backed up.
- Using the Centrol Control on the administration machine, select the data to be backed up on the servers you have installed the agents on.
- Using the Central Control you can schedule the frequency of the backups, as well as the encryption type, vault passwords and type of backup for each machine. Note that after the initial "seed" backup (which compresses and backs up all of the selected data), subsequent backups will only backup changes to the files reducing both the time of the backup process and the amount of bandwidth utilised in perform future backups.
- Once you have completed step three, all of the backups will be performed automatically using the schedule you set and will be transferred to the storage vaults in our offshore datacentres. It really is that simple - your data is stored in an offsite secure location and you don't need tapes or couriers!
- Restoring a file from the storage vault takes less than five minutes. It's simply a case of using the Central Control, selecting the backup safeset from the appropriate day, selecting the file or files and the restore is then performed immediately. You have none of the delays and issues associated with a traditional offsite backup in retrieving the appropriate tape, loading it, and then restoring the data. There is simply no better solution to data protection available.
Backups can be scheduled to run at any time of the day or night and as frequently as you like. The backup window is dramatically reduced utilising the software's "delta processing". The "deltized" data (the sections of the file that have changed) are compressed to minimise transmission time and storage requirements - saving you time and resources. The delta processing means that only the portion of file that has changed is backed up rather than the complete file.
Data is stored encrypted using a password entered by you, and your account is protected by your personal security code assuring you of complete security and privacy. Not even we can decrypt your data!
Using the Central Control administration software, a single LAN administrator can setup backups on behalf of other users. The Central Control simply connects to the agent software on the server to be backed up, allowing the administrator to configure and schedule the backup tasks to be performed on that server by the agent software.
Our online backup service has two major security features. The first is an encrypted authorisation feature for every end user that connects to the storage vault in our datacentres to protect your data from unauthorised access (this can also be further secured by limiting the IP addresses that your servers can connect from when communicating with your personal account on the vault). An additional option is to encrypt your data prior to transmission to the storage vault. This protects your data both in transmission over the network and whilst the data is stored in the storage vaults in our datacentres.
Because our online backup service is based on TCP/IP, the underlying physical communication method is immaterial. This means that anybody with a connection to the internet can utilise that connection overnight to perform the backups.
